Ensuring proper care and handling of roses is crucial for preserving their freshness and beauty on Valentine’s Day.

When the Roses arrive:

  • Use clean buckets and vases with fresh water! Clean the buckets and vases thoroughly with soap and water before arranging the roses. Bacteria in dirty buckets and vases can shorten the life of the flowers.
  • Fill the vase with tepid water and ensure that at least 2-3 inches of the stems are submerged. Warm water helps to open the rose buds. Change the water every 2 days.
  • Remove any leaves or foliage on the stems that will be below the waterline in the bucket or vase. Submerged foliage can lead to bacterial growth.
  • Cut the stems at a 45-degree angle under running water. This helps the roses absorb water more efficiently.
  • Leave the cardboard sleeves on while the roses re-hydrate in fresh water.
  • Use a floral preservative in the water to nourish the roses and inhibit the growth of bacteria. Follow the package instructions for proper dilution.
  • Once roses have rehydrated, place them into the cooler to keep them cool and comfortable until you are ready to design with them!
