A rose is a rose, right? Well, if you are looking for roses for weddings then you will stumble upon a lot of garden roses. So, what is a garden rose and what makes it different from a regular one? In order to know the answer to these questions, you must first know the basics about roses.
Roses come from the family Rosaceae, which is the same family as fruit trees, berries, and almonds. Rosaceae has more than a hundred species, one of which is the common rose. There is no specific way to categorize roses, but they are often divided into three groups, which are wild roses, Old Garden Roses, and Modern Roses.
Wild roses are those that have not been hybridized by people to be used in the cut flower industry. They naturally grow in the wild and are not used as roses for weddings.
Old Garden Roses are species of roses that were popular before the 20th century. Most of the roses are known to withstand cold winters and be more resistant to diseases. Some of the characteristics of Old Garden Roses are fragrance, cup and high petal count. These traits are what set them apart from standard roses, which make them ideal for a bouquet of roses for special occasions.
Modern roses are the species that most people know. The most common variety is the hybrid tea rose, which continues to bloom through the season, has larger blooms and a longer vase life. These bouquets of roses don’t have a fragrance. They also have a higher risk of contracting disease.
David Austin garden roses have been attributed to the British breeder of the same name. He made hybrids of Old Garden Rose varieties and modern roses. His goal is to come up with varieties that have the bloom shape and fragrance of Old Garden Roses, but can bloom repeatedly just like modern roses. David Austin garden roses are popular among gardeners and florists for their robust and full blooms. Some of the most popular David Austin garden roses include the Juliet, Patience, Beatrice, Edith, Kate, Tess, Constance, Keira, Darcey, and Miranda. They are often used as roses for weddings.
David Austin Garden Roses are often more expensive than regular roses because of the limited supply. Consequently, a bouquet of roses made of hybrid teas would be more affordable than a bouquet of garden roses.
